Your journey across the sky

is our journey

A sign post on the open sea when confusion stirs

The warmth for which we long

The light we crave

When I went through a rough period as a teenager, my big sister made me aware of the opportunity to choose self love instead of destructiveness.

Being consciously kind to my self was at the time a new concept to me, and little did I know that it would turn my whole life around.

It wasn't in the big decisions that the shifts happened as one would think, but in the small every day choices I made that was the opposite to self-destructiveness.

My personality shifted and I started dancing, painting, singing and writing. I began to spend more of my time in the forest exploring, and that was the moment when my love for the sun expanded and transformed from appreciation to devotion. 'Sun worshipping ' suddenly took on a whole new meaning and I could feel it in every cell of my body. A resonance.

The ancient 'Sun wheel' symbol have been found in different cultures all over the world, including Scandinavia, and there are a few variations in our current interpretation of the symbol. I feel that the experience I had in my teens gave me a glance in to the mystery of 'Sun worshipping ' which is often referred to as primitive in our modern time.

Although I would agree that the sun wheel probably represents a part of creation's cyclic nature, I also feel that it speaks of a relationship that has to be experienced to be properly understood.

I chose the name Vegvisir for this painting which is commonly connected to a different Icelandic symbol that we can trace back to the medieval ages. However I found it suitable in this case making reference to both my transformative experience and the famous sunstone that made it possible for the seafarers to locate the sun

in an entirely overcast sky and find their way.
